Rurouni Kenshin!

Hi! Yes, I still have an account and it is still a paid account. I must be stupid, but i do enjoy having no ads. Anyway, my regular blog is going through some annoying issues at the moment. I wanted to post this awesome trailer for Rurouni Kenshin :-D

Rurouni Kenshin will be debut in Japan on August 25, 2012. I so wish I could see this film at the same time. It looks AWESOME. What do you think?

I really want to go to Japan…..

In a desperate attempt to lure tourists back to a country plagued by radiation fears and constant earthquakes, the Japan Tourism Agency‘s proposed an unprecedented campaign – 10,000 free roundtrip tickets.

The catch is, you need to publicize your trip on blogs and social media sites.

10,000 Free Round-Trip Tickets to Japan by Akiko Fujita

I was just posting on my Facebook that I wanna go to Japan and someone sent me this news article. I would LOVE to get a free round-trip ticket. I don’t care about earthquakes and tsunamis, I just really want to go!

Would- be visitors will have to detail in writing their travel plans in Japan, and explain what they hope to get out of the trip. Successful applicants would pay for their own accommodation and meals. They would also be required to write a review their travel experiences, and post it online.

Um… right, so saying that I want to go there isn’t enough? I have to actually plan a trip I may not be able to take based on an idea of when I might be able to get there. I don’t mind the accommodations and meals and stuff since I have already had offers of help when I get there…. if they are still available… and I would love to do hostels…. Writing about the travel experience… I don’t have a problem doing that. I love posting randomly on my blogs and journals. This one would even be cross-posted to every media since I would be so excited :-) Prolly updates during too.

Oh wait… what is this?

“We are hoping to get highly influential blogger-types, and others who can spread the word that Japan is a safe place to visit,” said Kazuyoshi Sato, with the agency.

…are there really 10,000 ‘highly influential blogger-types’? … No one reads my blogs even my crossposted social media can’t be called “highly influential”. Oh well, not like I am not gonna try anyway. I hope I will get support. But really, such a comment really crushes those earlier feelings of excitement….

Who am I foolin’ anyway?

I am reading Bakuman. It took me a while and I really should’ve gotten there sooner, but hey, I was busy… with something… just don’t know what.

A quick synopsis: Bakuman is a manga series written by the dynamic duo who wrote the insanely popular DEATH NOTE. (you’ve heard of that right??? Right???) But they are not doing another dark cult hit like that, instead they are taking a tour of the manga publishing industry. Sound boring? Wrong. We follow Mashiro, nephew of a one-hit-wonder mangaka, and his new buddy Takagi as they team up in middle school with the goal of being the most popular manga team of their era. Mashiro’s drawing ability came to the attention Takagi who was looking for someone of quality to illustrate his many story ideas. Mashiro was hesitant, but Takagi finally won him over and the pair step into an intense adventure, from research to submission, from joy to defeat, but through it all, they are determined to get a serialization by the time they graduate High School. Gambatte!

After reading the first vol. I knew one thing for certain, I would never be able to do any professional manga, comics, writing or editing. Also, I realised I will never get away from Manga now that I found it. Yeah, I know. YOU know I couldn’t do professional manga, heck -I- know I couldn’t. I don’t have the drive, I don’t have the creativity required, and I am getting older. I didn’t really want to do that anyway. And I am still amazed it took me as long as it did to get into manga in the first place. Can you say late (late, late, late, late, …) bloomer?

So, if I am not gonna try to do such things professionally, why do I have Manga Studio? Why am I practicing drawing manga style art? Why, after reading the first volume of Bakuman, did I start DRAWING WHOLE PAGES from manga???

For that matter, why am I learning Japanese? Just to read Manga? Am I really that insane? and yet, I just grabbed one of my old manga phone books this morning with the intent of translating pages. I am spending that kind of money to learn a language just to read silly comics? Ok, so I wanted to read Light Novels as soon as I realised what they were… and yes, the dramas did pull me in for a while, but really. Why? what could i possibly use this for??

While I am at it, why have I been learning about story making and story techniques? I never use them. I attempt NaNoWriMo every year and every year there is a different outcome with ne’er a finish.

Seriously, who am I fooling? ;-)

What have you been doing girl?

So I haven’t been blogging or anything useful anywhere for a while. I am trying to get used to my new move and the new amount of travel involved. Oddly enough, though I am at a more expensive than previous apartment, I am actually using less money over all. I think all the impending doom stuff helped me more than I realised. I won’t be able to do everything I wanted to do like join all the clubs and such that I want to join, but I will be able to do what I like still and MAYBE save money as well.

My birthday is in two weeks. I was actually asked what I want to do for my Birthday and I found myself dumbfounded. Rare. VERY RARE is it that I am asked what I want to do, not because I never celebrate it or anything, but because I either have something planned and tell everyone what to do or they have something already planned or I just go with the flow of knowing everything will happen as it happens. So when I was asked, I felt not only oddly curious, but poleaxed and it took me a while to figure out why. Now… my bday is two weeks from today and I am hanging with a group where we have one under age 21 so I cannot do a bar party or anything…. What do I do? We might end up with Korean Barbeque… yeah, that sounds good.

More Twilight Saga, a rant about Japanese class and other random stuff

Ok, so apparently despite warnings, I found myself pulled into the Twilight Saga. I didn’t have the same detachment from the second book. Though I found myself attaching and detaching at weird times. Like it was written one way and then changed later. It was a weird. *sigh* All with the result that I will prolly finish the series by this time next week. Oh well. Thank you to all who commented about it, now I totally feel like I am hovering between a 18 yo and my own age. Not quite reaching either. :-P

I am a little miffed that I haven’t gotten to ep 4 of FMA yet and now ep 5 is out. Oh well. I will have to watch that at lunch today or Thursday.

Today is a Japanese class day. I am a little annoyed with my teacher. Read more ranting behind this cut

Food to Drool over

I friended athena8 because of Saiyuki and stayed friended because she posts many things of interest. Today I was drooling over her short entry about a Japanese fusion restaurant in the Penn Quarter of DC… and the pics of the food contributed to the small puddle that formed on my desk. If I plan a trip to DC, I definitely want to add this restaurant as one of my Must See places out there.

Liquid Wasabi, and other things divine

I am a bit annoyed to have not been doing updates, but really I don’t have time for them anymore and since I have to log into the site to do the posts and have access to all the features that I love, it just isn’t convenient anymore.

I am missing doing the Anime, Manga, and Con updates. It’s already been several months since the last con and new one is occurring this weekend! I will have to just find my notes and write about what I can remember. Meh.

Also, I have started getting GameFly since the last update I think… and now I am going to have to add Video Game reviews to my list. LOL Ok, so my ‘reviews’ aren’t the best, but I do like getting my opinion out there and getting feedback even if it is “you’re so crazy! why do you like THAT??”

I am putting together a blog on my website. Read More Updates…

Even after a Crash

Deepest Sender still isn’t working as awesome as it once did. I am thinking I must be the only one experiencing probs since I don’t see any commentary on fixing it. But Meh, not important, what is important is my new Japanese Language Learning Tool, one that complements my classes as nicely as JapanesePod101.com does:

Feeling Geeky…

I am so feeling giddily geeky today.

I am excited because I got a notification that my wig is on its way and I am watching the progress on UPS. It will be a while, but I think there will be time for me to make necessary adjustments. Yay.

Also, I did something stupid two nights ago. I went to Kunikoniya (the largest Japanese bookstore in the USA)… and bought stuff. What did I buy? Glad you asked! I bought the CD I asked them to stock for me. It cost me $33.15 plus tax, but WELL worth the wait and still cheaper than buying it online. I picked up open_d by doa (j-pop) …. Which just happens to have Shiro no Jumon on it O:-) Yes. That obsessed. The rest of the music is very good as well. it will enhance my work mix greatly.

I also bought encouragement to learn Japanese quickly….. I bought a copy of the October Issue of ZeroSum :-D It looks like the rest of the manga in there is as awesome as the Saiyuki stuff! I want to learn so I can read it all. But my goodness! Why did no one mention the thickness of the mag? It is huge!!!

YAYS! Finally found a class I can most likely take! On September 16, at 7pm (EDT) I am going to be attending a free beginner’s Japanese lesson. If I like the format, etc, I will be signing up for 14 weeks of 2 1-hour lessons.

This makes me VERY excited and happy! (*muted grumble* wish Lithuanian was this easy….. */muted grumble*)

Meh, so YAY, I will be getting actual lessons which means that I will actually be able to make use of the tools found at JapanesePod101.com and my subscription will not be wasted. *gets excited* the classes would start the following week.
